Most often flat or following a gentle grade, they traverse urban, suburban and rural America. Ideal for many uses, such as bicycling, walking, inline skating, cross-country skiing, equestrian and wheelchair use, rail-trails are extremely popular as recreation and transportation corridors.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.railstotrails.org\/ourWork\/trailBasics\/FAQs.html\">Rails to Trails Conservancy<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote><p>The first section of the trail, from Nora to Broad Ripple, opened in 1996. Since then the trail has grown in popularity and size, now connecting with Fall Creek Trail,\u00a0the Monon Greenway of Carmel and the Central Canal Towpath, which leads to the White River Wapahani Trail.<\/p><p>Those who use the Monon may want to thank NCC for the development of the trail. We strongly supported, against negative attacks, Mayor Hudnut\u2019s efforts to save the Right of Way.
